We run very successful wildlife clubs in schools throughout Edinburgh. They offer a wide range of fun, adventurous and motivational wildlife and environmental activities and projects. They are designed to offer members the chance to experience nature first hand, try new and exciting challenges, learn new ‘outdoor’ skills and realise that learning and interacting with their local environment is very important but also really good fun.
Here are some of the things we get up to, but there are many more:
- Life on the beach (This activity will be available to all schools but will involve buses, alternative pick up points etc. Details nearer the time).
- Life in deadwood and leaf litter there’s so much going on under your feet.
- River watch (as with life on the beach)….wellies and nets.
- Pollution, rubbish and recycling…its amazing what we throw away.
- Local environmental issues, get on your soapbox.
- Tracks, trails and camouflage…are you prepared to get dirty?
- Wildlife garden surveys…we made it, what’s in it?
- Nature maps…get a big picture of what’s happening in a wild area.
- 24 hr wildlife art…. magical colours to create a masterpiece or a monster.
- Winter bird food…. It’s messy but so important.
- Woodland adventure…getting to know your woodland.
- Celtic challenge…do you understand nature as well as your ancestors?
- Bird or bat boxes…. take them home and watch our flying friends.
- Winter/ Christmas art…save some cash on Xmas presents.
- Seeds and fruits… grow your own plants or simply eat from nature’s larder.
- Food for free.
- Bushcraft skills (shelters, cordage and fire making).
- Wildlife in the dark. Bats and moths, maybe a badger.
- Quizzes, challenges, prizes. If it’s raining we can still have fun.
The clubs run from term to term throughout the school year. If you are interested in more information contact info@earthcalling.org
